megaredfishyoga-horzmegan is a yoga teacher in san francisco. one of the many, many, many yoga teachers in this city by the bay. she simply believes yoga to be a good thing and this is what she has to say. she finds talking in the third person unnerving, does not like capital letters or capital punishment, has a master’s degree from the london school of economics in wars and revolutions, was once a bike messenger, hung out at cbgbs back in the day, loves ice cream and hamburgers (organic freerange of course), music, moody grey skies, swimming and laughter. she stomps her boots when people say they can’t do yoga because they are not flexible and shouts (softly) “yoga is a mindful strength based activity that improves your range of motion and functional strength and flexibility!”

I teach slow, strong classes rich in alignment incorporating both movement and restorative shapes and believe yoga should be simple and doable and as delicious the perfect peach on a summer day. No matter how strong or flexible or old or young or fit or bent out of shape you define yourself to be there is room in my class for  you. My hope is that my students leave each class feeling more at home in their bodies and more connected to their lives.

I also teach prenatal yoga & couples prenatal sessions and workshops. I am perpetually in awe of the trans-formative power and beauty of motherhood and consider myself so lucky to share in many a mama’s journey though pregnancy.

Yoga has been a part of my life for over 20 years now – I completed the teacher training at the Yoga Tree in San Francisco in 2005 and have been teaching ever since. I have studied anatomy with Ellen Heed and study pre/postnatal yoga with Jane Austin and Marisa Toriggino. My teaching owes a great debt to  my mom’s years as a aerobics instructor, to the police and fire men who taught me to lift weights bigger than me in highschool, the hills of San Francisco during my years as a bike messenger that taught me strong is a state of mind and the traffic that impressed upon me how the present moment is the most important, the Pilates teachers, chiropractors and physical therapists that have helped me learn alignment by putting me back together and sharing their hard earned knowledge. I am always searching out new knowledge. I am  grateful for my all my varied teachers – especially my constant teachers – my son, my students, and the simple power of breathing.
