Saturday Mornings – Pilates Mat – mixed levels 8:30-9:30

Mat work is the core of Pilates training. The precise exercises developed by Joseph H. Pilates in the 1920’s are tried and true in building core strength, increasing flexibility & range of motion, improving coordination, control of movement, alignment, and deep full breathing. With practice and intention, building strong abdominal and postural muscles – also known as the powerhouse – is invaluable in the support of the skeletal system. Pilates exercises focus on using the breath to channel core energy into the center of the body and out to the limbs. (Each Pilates exercise can be modified to suit most people, of any age or fitness level. At the same time, Pilates is widely recommended by doctors, physical therapists, and chiropractors for older people and those undergoing physical rehabilitation. If this is the case, however, please let the studio and your instructor know so that we can help direct or accommodate your concerns safely and effectively.)

Satori Yoga (40 1st Street, San Francisco)

Mondays & Wednesdays – Pilates Mat (all levels) 12:30-1:30

This hour long class will explore the vast repertoire of Pilates Mat work which is the foundation and center of the Pilates Systemof exercises developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s and then built upon by future generations of his students and students of the method.
Pilates exercises utilize the breath as a tool to drop deeply to one’s center to find both strength, connection and calm. At the core of the Pilates Method is the idea that one’s self confidence and quality of life is linked to the health and balance of one’s body, mind and spirit. The skills involved in the precise exercises of Pilates build core strength, increase flexibility & range of motion, improve coordination, control of movement, alignment, and deep full breathing with the added bonuses of longer leaner muscles and functional strength to take with you to your other active pursuits! The strong abdominal and postural muscles (The Pilates Powerhouse) developed by the exercises are invaluable in the support of the skeletal system.
This will be an all levels class suitable for beginners and seasoned practitioners looking to refine their skills. Modifications will be given for those dealing with injuries or osteoporosis.
